扑克 Avoid Chasing in Poker

Part of being a successful Texas Holdem poker player is learning how to avoid chasing in poker.  Sounds simple, doesn’t it?

And since it sounds so simple, this theory and statement makes many poker players think that the way to do this is to simply bet more on their next few decent poker hands that follow a tough or bad beat.

Unfortunately this is wrong.  You don’t put fires out with gasoline and you don’t recover from poker losses by betting more money and chips on marginal poker hands.  So just how does a Texas Holdem poker player turn losses into wins?  By playing his normal poker game that should be designed for the long term, a philosophy of Texas Holdem that is not based on the whims of poker hands but with a vision that is months beyond what is currently taking place at a poker table.

A Texas Holdem player’s poker bankroll should be considered as a large stack of poker chips.  And this stack is to grow over several months, not several poker hands in an individual game.  This is the vision and the outlook of the successful Texas Holdem player.

By outlining a long-term vision a poker player next needs to look at his chips as soldiers or employees that serve him and that are precious commodities not to be wasted.  If a player has ten thousand poker chips and he starts to waste them on chasing losses he is going to have less chips to utilize when he really needs them next month on a monster dream hand at a no limit Texas Holdem table.

Poker chips that are being wasted on a futile chase now will never be recovered.  Chips that are saved by a Texas Holdem player keeping his cool will be there when he really needs them sometime down the line.

Poker chips are a Texas Holdem player’s friend.  You don’t waste friends or take them for granted because some day you will need friends to help you at the table.  One of the best poker rules of thumb is that a Texas Holdem player should treat his chips/bankroll with respect and with vision.

If you have gambled or played Texas Holdem for any length of time you have undoubtedly heard the expression “chasing his tail.”  This describes the idiocy of a poker player chasing his losses with idiotic and wasteful bets that simply dig a deeper hole of defeat.  Avoid chasing in poker and you will definitely end up making more money.
