扑克 Do Not Just Call, Raise(不要仅仅叫牌, 加注)

Playing Texas Holdem online is a game of choices while Limit poker has a limit on the choices you can make, making No-Limit a game with a wider variety of options.

Playing No-Limit tournaments offers a variety of choices and these choices usually determine whether or not you stay alive or not. Like whether to call or raise.

One of the more common mistakes made in Texas Hold’em is calling a bet when you should raise. This occurs as often in No-Limit Texas Holdem as it does in Limit Texas Holdem and is made by novice and expert players alike, and there are many reasons for it. Some believe that their hand may not warrant a raise, or, conversely, they believe that their hand is a winner right from the flop, and are trying to slow-play their hand and avoid scaring out others. All too often, this is a huge mistake, and it will end up backfiring on you.

In order for this to be successful, you need an absolute monster of a hand (such as flopping a full house) and need to be sitting in early position. The early position is necessary because for this tactic to work, you need to be fairly sure that someone is going to bet behind you.

The advantages of raising versus calling are numerous. First, it may reduce your opponents, and therefore increase your odds of winning the pot. Remember that when you are playing Limit Texas Holdem, you can face four opponents for one bet each or you can face two opponents for two bets (the raise) and still have the same amount of money in the pot, but with two less opponents. Secondly, you are likely to be checked to in subsequent rounds, which gives you the option of seeing a free card if you so choose.

Third, a subsequent bet following on the turn may allow you to pick up the pot without having to see the river. This option would not work if you had just called on the flop, and without the raise, you would likely have to go all the way to the river and face a showdown.

More often than not, raising is the correct play, especially in Limit Texas Holdem, or in tournament play. By forcing other players to react to you, you increase the probability that they will commit a mistake on which you can capitalize.  Remember that if you are considering a call then seriously consider a raise.  The advantages far outweigh the disadvantages in almost every situation.
