扑克 Betting Instead of Checking in Online Poker

One of the biggest mistakes that online poker players make in Texas Holdem is checking down a hand when they should be betting it.

Let's consider some examples of exactly when those types of common poker mistakes occur when you should be betting instead of checking to maximize you poker earnings.

The first example of this mistake is easy to see and it happens quickly. Many online poker Texas Holdem players will check when they flop a middle pair, mainly because they do not think that their hand is that good. Middle pair really isn’t that great of a hand, but checking this hand can be a mistake in both Limit Texas Holdem and No-Limit Texas Holdem.

Playing at shorthanded No-Limit Texas Holdem tables, the middle pair can easily be bet instead of checked, especially when playing in early position in a tight game. Betting middle pair works in a variety of situations, against both rainbow flops and also against two-suited flops.

Against a rainbow flop, you are more likely to have the better hand, and against a two-suited flop, you can avoid giving someone a free card, and at the same time be almost guaranteed a call. If you have a three-suited flop in Texas Holdem at online poker sites, a check and fold may be in order, as it would be with a flop containing multiple over-cards. In No-Limit Texas Holdem, betting this hand as opposed to checking, offers some advantages. It allows you to set the pace of the hand.

By coming out betting you decide how much to bet; the others must decide whether or not to call. This relieves you of trying to decide whether or not to call a bet. Betting may also allow you to see the turn card cheaper, since a check may produce a larger bet out of your opponent then you had originally intended.

Another example is when No-Limit and Limit Texas Holdem online poker players make the mistake of checking a missed hand on the river. At this point in the hand, especially in Limit Texas Holdem, you are getting pretty good odds on your hand.  That means you only have to be successful every so often to make this strategy pay off. As an added benefit, you get some pretty good opinions of your play if you do get called and lose. Players are more than likely to pay you off in the future and that will be to your benefit.

What you want to remember when playing Texas Holdem is that if you have a hand worthy of a call then you have a hand worthy of a bet.  Betting in poker wins you money and it is usually a better option than just checking in many situations.
